April - Ready to Kick off the 2012 Season

Another month done and another month closer to the start of the Games. Unfortunately race wise things didn’t go to plan with things like thunderstorms canceling a meet, on a positive note training has continued to go really well and I am completely injury free.

My first race is now not for another 2 weeks on the 19th May here in Clermont where I train and at this point I am really just ready to get things under way. These next 5 weeks here in the states are very important to setting me up for hopefully what is to be a successful summer. I need to concentrate on executing my technique and then i have no doubt the times will look after themselves.

On a lighter note did anyone see Cisse’s goal against Chelsea during the week? Has to be the greatest goal I have seen. Predictions, Man City win the league, Bayern for Champions League, I did say Chelsea for FA cup which happened today and next year “The Mighty Liverpool” for world domination. Just you wait and see. Until next month.

Coach's Message

Coach Message

Well, we’ve hit the last lap, I liken an Olympic/Paralympic Cycle to a mile race, four years to prepare and put into place everything that’s needed to be successful in an Olympic Games.

Success can be measured in various ways, and for Jason, retaining his Paralympic Titles is the main objective, that in itself is tough, but throw in qualification for an Olympic 100m place then we are talking major goals, 10.18 is fast, very very fast, but he is almost there and the plan that we put in place after Beijing is now maturing towards a qualification place.

It’s been a tough hard few months, training at this level isn’t easy, the sacrifices, the pain endured during training plus the loneliness all have an impact, but the reward at the end is immeasurable. Jason has the opportunity to make history, but credit to him, he is willing to push his boundaries to achieve those goals.

For me as his coach this is a difficult time, the pre-season period is crucial but we can’t afford any mistakes, he is running quick but that needs to be measured by training smart and remaining healthy, the old saying of being very fit or very injured is true and I need to ensure that everything possible is done to avoid even the slightest niggle at this stage, he hates me moaning but that’s my job, massage, nutrition, ice baths, stretching, sleep, all the components needed to get over that line.

He begins racing in April, with qualification happening in May and June, we’ll keep you posted.
